Brazilian Regions – Jalapão

This destination is known to those passionate about ecotourism, but still rarely visited. Jalapão enchants for its abundant waters, plateaus, and mountains in the savanna climate and Cerrado landscape. Giant orange dunes, rivers, waterfalls, hot springs, and rock formations complete the scene. The Jalapão park is a wild landscape in the heart of Brazil.

There are several species of animals that live in the park such as jaguars, monkeys, and alligators. Among the birds are toucans, parrots, and macaws. It is possible to spend days in Jalapão without seeing a single person, but you will see all sorts of animals!

Besides ecotourism, the second main source of income for the local community in Jalapão is the production of handicraft items using golden grass and buriti silk which guarantee the sustainable, ecological, and economic use of the Cerrado region. Its main characteristic is the color that resembles gold. Golden grass shines even more in September and is manually harvested until November. The artisan can produce bracelets, earrings, key chains, bags, belts, vases, toys, and decoration pieces. To avoid the extinction of the grass, the local government implemented a regulation which prohibits the raw material to leave the region. Only the final product already produced by the local community can be sold.

At Brazi Lion Boutique, we work with the local community in Jalapao to resell their products in the United States. By buying a pair of Golden Grass earrings, you are contributing to the livelihood of this beautiful community.
